- NBPH is government-funded and one of 81 not-for-profit Primary Health Organisations (PHOs)employing doctors, nurses, Máori health workers, dietitians, pharmacists, physiotherapists,psychologists and midwives.
- PHOs were set up by the government and Ministry of Health to deliver health services meeting specific needs in their communities.
- The NBPH is, since 1 April 2010, the employer or contractor for all services provided by GB Medical Centre, including all 4 current GPs.
- The income of the NBPH in year one is estimated at about $5 million to cover health services in the Bay. It is planned to rise.
- Privatisation? Absolutely not. Don‚t forget that previously GP services and rest home care in the Bay were provided by private or community institutions. They will now be run by NBPH.
- A GP surgery centre & service will continue in Collingwood.
